ÎÀÎ «ÒÌÊ» operates its business in line with the international standards and effective national environmental legislation and is focused on the constant reduction of the development pressure on the natural ecosystems in the regions of company presence.
ISO 14001-2004
Environment management systems (EMS), which comply with the requirements of the international ISO 14001:2004 standard have been implemented and are effectively functioning at OAO TMK.
Introduction of the environmental component into the management allows making system management decisions for executing environmental management and environment protection activities.
Solutions for the environmental issues
The mills perform system environmental protection work, which is comprehensive and is aimed at:
Gradual reduction of the contaminators emission into the atmosphere;
Gradual reduction of the pollutant effluents volume in the water;
Reduction of soil contamination by industrial waste.
Environmentalinvestments
TMK strategic investment program, to be executed by 2010, is inseparably associated with the environmental aspects of the Company activity. The priority is technical re-equipping with the implementation of the environmentally safe production, based on the best available technologies, distinguished by high environment and energy efficiency.
Target environmental investments have increased 3.4 times from 2006 to 2008, which allowed implementing a number of projects and a set of works, which ensure the reduction of the contaminators emission into the atmosphere, waste water disposal and soil contamination by the industrial waste.
38 environmental investment activities and projects were implemented in 2008 totaling to RUR 2.267 billion.
It includes:
Construction of EAF gas cleaning at ÎÀÎSTZ;
Construction of water treatment and EAF turnover cycles at OAO STZ;
Reconstruction of reverse water supply for PQF mill at OAO TAGMET;
Construction of reverse water supply for thermal section at OAO TAGMET;
Construction of water treatment at heat section of OAO SinTZ;
Reconstruction of turnaround system at OAO VTZ.
Corporate environmental projects and initiatives
The company pays particular attention to the production waste management system, waste recycling and reduction of volumes, placed at the polygons and industrial dump.
In its activity ÒÌÊconsiders liabilities of Russia, occurred after signing the Kyoto protocol. The Company has the “Program of market mechanisms implementation for regulating greenhouse gases emission” which considers a comprehensive approach for greenhouse gases emission management.
TMK cooperates with state and non-state organizations, associations, scientific institutions in the field of:
Improvement of Russian environmental legislation;
Scientific research;
Development of environmental normative documents.
Acknowledgementoftheenvironmentalresponsibility
In 2008 the Company was a winner in the “Best environmental project of the year-2008” contest, conducted by the Russian Ministry of Natural Resources in the category “Environmental efficiency of the economy” for the project “Reconstruction of steelmaking production at OAO STZ”. The award is State acknowledgement of the Company environmental responsibility.
