On September 17 the Pipe Metallurgical Company and SMS Demag AG (Germany) have concluded a 45 mln euro worth contract for the delivery of billet continuous casting machine (BCCM) to three enterprises: Taganrog Metallurgical Works (TAGMET), Seversky Tube Works (STW) and Volzhsky Pipe Plant (VPP). SMS Demag AG, one of the world leaders in metallurgical machinery construction, has won the tender held by TMK at the start of the current year. The new equipment will allow to obtain steel billets for pipe manufacture by the most effective, highly productive and non polluting method. The contract states that in two years two new BCCMs will be constructed at TAGMET and STW with up to 1 mln t/year capacity each. These are the most state-of-the-art 5-strand units permitting to produce billets of square section, with square sides from 150 to 340 mm, and of circular section, with the diameter from 150 to 400 mm. At VPP will be install BCCM with capacity 800,000 t of 150-410-mm circular steel billets. The contract also previews the participation of the Russian public corporation \"Uralmashzavod\", which will supply part of the components for the units to be constructed. Construction of modern BCCMs is the first stage in the updating of the TMK existing steel-making complex. The program aims at maximum provision of the Company\'s pipe production with inhouse steel billets.
