New Upsetting Plant in Operation at Sinarsky Pipe Plant

At Sinarsky Pipe Works, which is part of TMK, the new upsetting press was formally put into operation, which is intended for tube-finishing operations of oil range pipes. Aleksey Vorobyov, the Chairman of Sverdlovsk Region Government, Dmitriy Pumpyanskiy, the Chairman of TMK’s Board of Directors and Konstantin Semerikov, Director General of TMK took part in the event.

The new upsetting press is a unique development by SMS Meer, German machine engineers, made to special order for the factory in view of modern requirements. The installation of the press was included in the TMK investment program for modernization of production. The equipment will permit increased output of upset tubing and boring pipes by 36 000 tons per annum, which practically solves the problem of Russian petroleum companies dependence on import. At the same time, the quality of upsetting pipes will be increased and the time for machining of the upset ends will be reduced. About one year was required to realize the project, including manufacturing of the equipment, installation supervision and professional training, and the total amount of investment was approximately US$15 million.

Speaking at the formal ceremony devoted to start-up of the new equipment, Dmitriy Pumpyanskiy, the Chairman of TMK’s Board of Directors declared that introducing the new upsetting press is one of the most important stages of the investment programme for the Company to enlarge the output of hi-tech production to satisfy the increasing requirements of the Russian fuel and energy complex.
