TMK holds traditional events to mark Steel Safety Day organised under the auspices of the World Steel Association

TMK’s enterprises have held traditional events to mark Steel Safety Day, an annual initiative organised by The World Steel Association (worldsteel) and aligned with the International Labour Organisation’s (ILO) World Day for Safety and Health at Work. The initiative aims to reduce injury rates at production facilities and raise awareness of occupational safety issues in metal production.

As part of preparations for Steel Safety Day, shop floor safety audits were carried out across all divisions of the Company, focusing on the most common causes of injuries in the metals industry: moving machinery, falling from height, falling objects, and on-site traffic. A number of events involving the Company’s management were held on Steel Safety Day across TMK’s facilities to review health and safety (H&S) performance and consider plans for elimination or mitigation of identified H&S risks.

In 2016, the total number of employee accidents and the accident frequency rate fell by more than a third across TMK’s facilities.

“TMK ensures the highest standards of occupational health and safety. Thanks to these efforts, in 2016, the Company reached zero cases of group accidents and incidents across its facilities.

The Company will continue participating in this initiative, so that going forward the words ‘metal worker’ and ‘safety’ could become synonymous. Our task is to make our working environment as comfortable and safe as possible,” said Dmitry Pumpyanskiy, Chairman of TMK’s Board of Directors.
