TMK has ranked first among steel companies in the social performance ranking prepared by the AK&M Information Agency. The Company remains the industry’s leader in the ranking, which was first compiled in 2018 and highlights major Russian companies with the biggest contribution to society and the lowest environmental impact.
In 2021, the ranking included 45 participating companies that demonstrate best practices in sustainability. The assessment scale used such indicators as the social effect of activities (the amount of payments to the public budget, charity and environmental expenses, payments to employees) and the environmental impact (emissions, effluents and solid waste, taking into account their toxicity). Another metric included the share of social payments in a company’s revenue.
As a result, TMK has ranked first among steel companies in terms of social performance and responsibility to society. In particular, AK&M praised the consistent decrease in the environmental impact by TMK’s enterprises, including through reducing their solid waste generation and impact on water bodies.
“Sustainability has been part of TMK’s corporate culture for many years. We make a continuous effort to protect the environment, introduce advanced technology and the latest R&D solutions, improve industrial safety, create an environment for efficient and productive work, and actively contribute to the social agenda objectives of our operating regions. Our efforts are recognized at the national level, as confirmed by the high score from AK&M and other rating agencies. TMK will continue to lead the way in ESG through its existing and new environmental and social programs,” said Igor Korytko, CEO of TMK.
TMK is currently implementing a greenhouse gas emission reduction program that will enable an 8% decrease of its carbon footprint by the end of 2023. The Company is also developing a Greenhouse Gas Reduction Strategy to 2030, which will be based on environmental audits of operating processes. TMK has built a comprehensive employee development strategy and large-scale partnerships with educational institutions while also delivering social and charity projects across its operating regions.
