Nondestructive Testing
Glossary
Nondestructive Testing
A set of procedures and means for nondestructive testing of materials and products, to detect various defects (incl. structure discontinuity, corrosion damage areas, chemical composition and dimensions deviations, etc.). Nondestructive testing includes procedure and equipment development (flaw detectors, etc.), development of monitoring procedures, processing flaw detector results. The most important nondestructive testing methods include magnetic, electric, eddy current, radio wave, thermal, optic, irradiation, sonic, and penetrant. The best results are achieved by using a combination of various methods.
